In recognition of everyone’s favorite risen from the dead story, here is a list of our Top 10 Zombie Movies!

10. – FidoIn a world where zombies have been domesticated, a woman finds love in a very unexpected place (spoiler alert – it’s a zombie’s crotch!).

9. – Return of the Living Dead – The first movie where zombies told you exactly what they wanted – BRAAAIIINNS!  When two warehouse guys release a ‘bring the dead back to life’ gas across the street from a cemetery. They, along with a rowdy group of teens, fight for their lives.  It’s campy but it’s fun, and with great effects.

8. – Zombieland You know the rules (#2 – Double Tap). You love the Bill Murray scene… add some Twinkie jonesin’ and Emma Stone and you’ve got yourself a great funny zombie flick.

7. – Dead Alive (aka Brain DeadBefore he was making movies about Hobbits and rings, Peter Jackson made this schlocky masterpiece that is home to ass-kicking priests, the bloodiest scene in any movie ever, and the worst soup you’ll ever eat.

6. – Zombie (aka Zombi 2) –  A zombie fights a real 8′ shark underwater.  What else do you need to know?  Lucio Fulci’s classic where zombies run amuck on a remote island and a poor girl gets an eye full.

5. – Dawn of the Dead (1978) – The first Romero film on our list follows a group of survivors stuck in a shopping mall.  While this film forces the notion that we are all zombies in a consumer-based world, you can’t help but love this one despite the worst zombie make-up ever.  It also features the world’s first Hare Krishna zombie and Tom Savini, who would go on to reprise his role in Land of the Dead.

4. – 28 Days LaterSome will argue that fast zombies aren’t real zombies, and that this is a movie about an infection and not zombies.  These fuckers chase you and want to eat you = zombie.  As you watch this movie you come to realize that humans can be the worst monsters of all.

3. – Night of the Living DeadWhile not the first zombie movie, George A. Romero’s classic is the movie to which all zombie movies are compared.  With an original story, and one of the first movies to feature a black actor in the lead, this movie was ground breaking on so many levels.  And thanks to a copyright goof, this movie is public domain, so watch wherever and whenever you want and enjoy.

2. – Shaun of the Dead – Horror comedy gets a shot in the arm with this terribly funny film.  While the zombies are not overly vicious they make up for it in sheer numbers.  This is what all movies (both comedy and horror) should strive to be.  By the way, you’ve got a bit of red on you.

1. – Dawn of the Dead (2004) – With great effects, fast zombies & action from the start, the remake of Romero’s often too preachy classic gave zombies their new jump into pop culture that is still thriving today.

Honorable Mentions: Day of the Dead, Let Sleeping Corpses Lie, Re-animator, Pet Cemetery, Deadgirl, Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things, The Serpent and the Rainbow, Land of the Dead, Diary of the Dead, The Walking Dead (yes it’s a Tv show, but man is it good!)
