Trick R’ Treat

Release Date:  10/6/2009 (Direct to DVD) – Rated R

Starring: Anna Paquin (True Blood), Brian Cox (Super Troopers)

Plot Summary: 4 stories intertwined on Halloween night, an unassuming principal, a college age virgin, a high school prank, and a cranky old man who loves to terrorize children. We really don’t  want to give anything else away.

Alex’s Thoughts:  I had heard about this movie about a year and a half before it came out on DVD.  The theatrical release kept getting pushed back because the studio said it wasn’t very good… they were right, it isn’t good, it’s GREAT. It’s a shame it didn’t get a release, so many people missed out on learning about this movie. The stories are short and that keeps the movie moving along nicely with a new story about every 20 minutes.  The scene near the end where you see all of the stories come together is so rewarding and is done very well.  This is defininetly a movie that should be put into your yearly Halloween rotation.

Tim’s Thoughts: I agree with Alex, I had heard about this movie at least a year before it actually came out, and I couldn’t believe that it didn’t get theatrical release. In a pulp fiction style the movie is broken up into multiple stories that  all come together in end. The only part I didn’t like was a scene where they show the face of a monster that I thought looked too goofy and kind of spoiled how scary the character is. That tiny little detail aside this is a great halloween movie, and is just plain fun.

Final Thoughts: This film captures the spirit of Halloween perfectly, a little scary, a few laughs and unadulterated fun. Get a few beers and get some friends  together for a screening and you will not be disappointed. To be honest the first time I watched it, I was home alone and it was the middle of the day and had just as much fun watching it as I did with my friends later that week.
